Season nine of Suits marks the final cycle of the US legal drama as it bows out after nearly a decade on the small screen. The opening episode called Everything’s Changed signalled the times were indeed moving on following the shocking departure of Robert Zane (played by Wendell Pierce). Audiences saw the firm dealing with the aftermath of Robert’s exit as the dust settled.

Harvey and Donna’s romance
Suits fans finally got the payoff they were hoping for after Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) Donna Paulsen (Sarah Rafferty) finally got together after seasons of simmering sexual chemistry.
However, they had little time to enjoy the newfound romance after Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman) turned up at Donna’s apartment and wanted to know what the plan was on Robert situation.
Both Harvey and Donna decided to hold off telling their friends about the burgeoning romance until they were sure.
Harvey and Samantha settle things in the ring
However, Samantha Wheeler (Katherine Heigl) quickly sussed out the truth about Harvey and Donna.
Samantha was left angry because it was Donna’s fault Robert left the company in the first place.
She and Harvey had a boxing match as they had it out in the ring.
The pair made their peace afterwards when Harvey gave one of his favourite clients to Samantha as an olive branch.
The firm faces disrepute
Following Robert’s disbarring, the law firm was facing all kinds of scrutiny.
The New York Bar Association wanted Robert’s name to be removed from the firm, which they refused to do so.
Unfortunately, Harvey and co. found their hands tied by the Bar after a representative showed up and warned them they had to change the name.
Louis was forced to sign papers after the representative warned the Bar had taken control of the firm and all of them faced a six-month suspension from practising law if they didn’t comply.
Rachel and Mike
Although Rachel Zane (Meghan Markle) and Mike Ross (Patrick J. Ross) may have gone, they were not forgotten.
The episode closed with Harvey and Donna in the couple’s old New York apartment.
As they stood in the empty flat, Harvey explained to Donna he’d been paying the rent on flat instead of renting it out as they’d request.
Harvey admitted he’d kept the flat under a fake tenant name and hoped they’d come back to New York one day.
He also revealed they false tenant was the same name as the candidate who never turned up the day Harvey hired Mike way back in the pilot episode.
Season nine is likely to feature more nods back to the previous runs of Suits as the show leaves our screens.
