Succession finale explained: What happened at the end of season 2?

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Succession season 2 finale

The whole episode was angled on patriarch Logan Roy (played by Brian Cox) making a (blood sacrifice) to appease shareholders following the cruise scandal.

He carefully considered his options which included Tom (Matthew Macfadyen) and Greg Hirsch (Nicholas Braun) before ultimately settling for Kendall (Jeremy Strong).

However, the tables were turned at the last moment when Kendall choose to sacrifice his father and blamed him.

As Kendall admonished his father publicly, Logan could be seen with a smile on his face which hinted he may have been in on this about-turn at the last moment.

There was the impression that Logan was never just going to pass over his company and give away power, instead, it was earned.

“You’re not a killer. You have to be a killer,” Logan told his son shortly before Kendall made his move.

The smile may also have been Logan’s pride at seeing his son transformed and making a ruthless decision in a bid for power.

Speaking about the finale, Succession creator Jesse Armstrong revealed the conclusion to season two had been in the works for a while.

He said there was no other option about who would get the sack from Waystar Royco in the end.

Meanwhile, Logan actor Brian Cox said that the allusions to the “blood sacrifice” had been carefully peppered into the story.

Fans are now going to have to wait until season three to find out Logan’s fate and whether he’ll go to prison or is he can worm his way out of it.

“It’s all up for grabs,” Cox teased to Deadline with Armstrong confirming the writing team has yet to assemble for the next run.

HBO has already renewed Succession for season three and it’s not only a matter of time.
