Subaru Teams With iRacing for New Sim-Racing Competition

Subaru of America has announced a new sponsorship deal with simulator racing company iRacing that will make the automotive brand the title sponsor of a new race series. The Subaru iRX All-Star Invitational will pit drivers from across the world of racing including NASCAR, motocross, and Indycar, against esports professionals in an online competition beginning April 10.

The event will feature a $10K USD prize which will be donated to charity on behalf of the winners. Subaru will also field a three-car lineup in the series from its Subaru Motosports USA team.

This is not Subaru’s first interaction with esports. In 2017, Subaru of America hosted a $20K Counter-Strike: Global Offensive invitational.

With the loss of real-world sports due to the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), esports and gaming have grown significantly in recent months, with simulated racing among the biggest beneficiaries. NASCAR and other high-profile racing programs have shifted their focus temporarily to simulated racing using the iRacing platform. Some of these races have also been broadcast on linear television, with NASCAR’s Pro Series Invitational reaching 1.33M viewers on Fox and FS1.
