Great Blasket Island is the most westerly point in Europe and is located just off the Irish coast near Dingle.

People have lived on the island since pre-history, but given its secluded location – you can only get there by boat – its population has dwindled.

Since then, it’s become a popular spot for tourists, who visit the island to see its stunning landscape and the local wildlife.

But now, for those who want to live life in the slow lane, a rare opportunity has come up for a couple or two friends to go live and work on the island.

The job listing, which was posted to its Facebook page, said that it was looking for two people to look after the island accommodation and coffee shop.

The roles will last between April and October, the peak tourist season on the island.

While the salary wasn’t advertised, the post explained that food and accommodation would be provided free of charge.

To apply, you have to email info@greatblasketisland.net.

But it’s no easy task.

As well as looking after the guests who visit and come and stay on the island, you have to live without electricity or hot water according to the couple who previously worked on the island.

Even guests who stay on the island have to use candles at night.

They also explained how they could only cook their food on a gas stove, and could only get their food from the mainland.

And if there’s bad weather, you could be cut off from the mainland for three or four days since boat is the only mode of transport that connects the two.

Despite this, the owners of the cottages who put out the advert said they have been inundated with applications.

Alice Hayes told extra.ie that her “inbox has not stopped pinging” since the job listing went live and has now had hundreds of applications.

There are a number of places around the world that will pay you to move there.
