Students earn scholarship money to play video games – 13abc Action News

SYLVANIA (WTVG) – Playing video games can help you pay your way through college. Lourdes University is one of a growing number of colleges and universities fielding eSports teams.

At Lourdes, the students receive an average of about $6,000 in scholarship money every year. There are both men and women on the team, and they compete against other schools throughout the country.

Just like traditional sports, the students will be doing exercises to prepare for competition. Once the season starts, they will train and practice several times a week. The training will include everything from cardio to stretches and workouts for their hands.

The season will kick off in September, but it hits high gear in the spring.
