STRICTLY’S Stacey Dooley has revealed how she has been tormented by online trolls over her relationship with Kevin Clifton.
The 2018 winner and her professional partner went public with their romance earlier this year following her split from ex-boyfriend Sam Tucknott.
The couple reunited to perform once again on the dancefloor during Saturday’s launch show, but Stacey, 32, admits she has received a lot of abuse online over her personal life.
Speaking at the launch of her new book, On The Front, at London’s National Theatre this weekend, she said: “People were more interested in what I was doing when I wasn’t working.
“Social media is a blessing and a curse. Some people will like me and some may think I am an idiot.
“Everybody will have an opinion of you and you have to make sure you like yourself. You just have to park it. It’s not real.”
The trolls were out in force on Twitter on Saturday night after Kevin, 36, was paired with Anneka Rice, 60, for this year’s series.
Anneka is the oldest celebrity participant in the 2019 run, and many cruelly joked it was Stacey who had insisted on Kevin being partnered with the presenter.
One wrote: “I guess Stacey Dooley will be relieved her fella wont cheat this year. #Strictly.”
Another troll added: “Putting Kevin with Aneka so he has no choice but to stay faithful to BBC princess Stacey.”
A third tweeted: “I wonder if Stacey made the bbc give Kevin the older celebrity as his partner so that he doesn’t stray like he normally does….
“Interestingly this is the first year he doesn’t get the hot favourite.”
The couple also had a bit of a “lovers’ tiff” as a VT was shown of their Paso Doble rehearsals.
When Stacey asked how Kevin felt when they won, he rolled his eyes and said: “I’ve done it six times.”
Stacey fired back: “But you’ve never won.”
With tongue firmly in cheek, Kevin laughed: “We’re having a lovers’ tiff here.”
