Strictly's Neil Jones denies he's gay 18 months after Seann Walsh's cruel jibe

Neil Jones has seemingly addressed rumours about his sexuality, 18 months after Seann Walsh hit him with a cruel jibe.

The 38-year-old professional dancer who is a regular on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing has insisted he is not gay, finally putting to bed the comedian’s claim.

Seann was a celebrity competitor on the 2018 series of the dance show and was partnered to Neil’s then wife, Katya Jones, 31.

The series was marred by a scandal surrounding Katya and Seann, after they were photographed snogging on a night out at the height of the competition.

While this brought widespread condemnation, with the public turning against the pairing, Seann made it worse by saying at the time: “I’m the guy who kissed a gay man’s wife.”

Neil has now said: “In ballroom there’s a lot of straight guys.

“But mum was always like, ‘It’s a shame you’re not gay because we could go shopping together’.

“And I was thinking, ‘whether I’m gay or not there’s no chance, you take forever’.”

With that, he quashed any rumours that he is gay and put Seann’s words to bed forever.

The kissing scandal paid a heavy price on Neil’s marriage to Katya and they announced they had separated in August last year after they spent 10 months seeing if they could recover their relationship.

They were married in 2013 and in a joint statement, posted to Instagram, the couple announced: “We will always love each other, just in a different way as friends.

“This will never change what a great team we make and we are really proud of everything we have achieved together.

“We wish one another every happiness and we will remain the best of friends.

“We are really looking forward to getting back to the ballroom and can’t wait to keep on dancing. Lots of love from us both xx.”

Katya reflected on turning 30 as her 31st birthday approached and said that she couldn’t feel more “wholesome, happy and blessed,” as she does right now.

Addressing her fans, Katya continued: “In exactly a month today is going to be my 31st birthday. Turning 30 last year was a very challenging time for me.

“And even though I was on dance tour, doing what I love around my friends, I couldn’t find my peace .

“There are so many preconceptions about turning 30, you can’t help but start to apply them to yourself, it’s meant to be some sort of milestone.

“But this year , even in isolation, even with possibility that I won’t be able to celebrate with my friends or see anyone at all, I couldn’t feel more wholesome, happy and blessed.

“No, there isn’t ‘you have to…’ ,there isn’t ‘you’re meant to…’, there is no right or wrong . It’s just me and my own journey.”
