Strictly’s Jamie Laing teases Kelvin Fletcher over final victory joking ‘thank god for my broken foot’

JAMIE Laing joked his broken foot paved the way for Kelvin Fletcher’s Strictly Come Dancing victory as he congratulated his former dance partner Oti Mabuse.

The Made In Chelsea star, 31, was forced to pull out of this year’s dancing competition after picking up the injury in the launch show’s opening group number.

But this ended up working well for professional Oti Mabuse, as she managed to secure the Glitterball trophy with his replacement, former Emmerdale actor Kelvin Fletcher.

Jamie congratulated the star for his win in a cheeky message on Twitter, saying: “Congratulations to @kelvin_fletcher and @OtiMabuse you guys rocked it!! Thank god for my broken foot #Strictlyfinal.”

Jamie was devastated when he found out he couldn’t continue in the competition – particularly because it’s his mum’s favourite show.

Appearing on This Morning, Jamie said at the time: “I cried. I just wanted to be Madonna and dance. I said to everyone, it’s a dancing show, why am I getting so upset about it?

“It’s so embarrassing. It’s my mum’s fave show in the world and I didn’t tell her I was doing it. She found out when I was on Loose Women and it was revealed.”

He was then replaced by Kelvin at the last minute.

But the soap star managed to dazzle despite his limited training, leading to him winning the show on Saturday.

He beat EastEnders actress Emma Burton – who was partnered with Anton du Beke – as well as CBBC presenter Karim Zeroual and Amy Dowden.

The final leaderboard saw Karim at the top with a combined 119 points from the judges, with Kelvin in second place with 118 and Emma  in third with 116. But the winner came down to the public vote.

Speaking after his win, Kelvin said: “I think this show represents everything that is amazing with this country, I think the people personify what is great and it’s just been an absolute privilege.”

He added, to Oti: “Thank you for the most amazing experience of my life. Thank you to Emma and Karim, Anton and Amy, and all the pros and all the celebs, the judges, everybody at home who has supported me, I feel so proud to be part of this, so thank you.”

Oti, through tears, said: “I’ve been on this show for five years and I have never ever met any celeb who gives his heart, his soul…

“If something is not working we stay in training and rehearse, not because he wanted to win but because he genuinely, genuinely loves dancing, and for me that is the best gift and the best ending to my year, so thank you.
