The DJ and professional dance partner Aljaz Škorjanec were at the bottom of the judges’ score board on Saturday night due to a number of mistakes in their routine.
But on Sunday she and Aljaz soon found themselves up against Jamie Laing and his partner Karen Hauer in the dreaded dance-off.
Both couples performed again for their place on the show, before awaiting the verdicts.
Clara and Aljaz performed a Jive to River Deep Mountain High by Tina Turner, while Jamie and Karen performed a Tango to Tanguera by Sexteto Mayor.
Jamie and Karen had impressed the judges on Saturday, so the panel seemed surprised to see him there.
Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Shirley Ballas then took it in turns to say who they were saving, and who they thought should go home.
Craig, Motsi and Shirley all agreed the decision was “difficult” and possibly the toughest dance-off yet.
So much so, the trio were divided with Craig voting differently to the ladies.
Craig voted to save Clara and and Aljaz, while Motsi and Head Judge Shirley saved Jamie and Karen.
Shirley said: “Well this is a very difficult series, I mean every couple is outstanding and I felt on this occasion that both couples totally lifted their game, but there was one couple they just convinced me.
“They had conviction from step to step, they believed in their performance and therefore I’m going to save Jamie and Karen.”
Craig told the pairs: “My goodness it’s a really difficult one, both couples I thought were absolutely incredible and danced with so much passion and love but the couple I would like to save, Clara and Aljaz.”
Motsi added: “I have to say this was one of the toughest decision I’ve ever had to make and based on that dance off only I saw one couple that did their choreography and had all the steps correct and I saw another couple who had a mistake in the steps and in the timing.
“So I’m going to choose for me, I’m saving Jamie and Karen.”
Host Tess Daly asked Clara about her time on the show, and she said: “I’ve had the best time ever, the best time ever and got a new friend for life. I’ve loved it, its one of the best things I’ve ever ever done, its been a dream come true.”
Many viewers had predicted this to be the result on Sunday night, but many had hoped she would get another chance to prove herself.
One viewer tweeted: “Clara No!” as another said: “I think it should be her or Ranvir.”
A third added: “I’ve really liked Clara, but sadly for me completely forgetting the routine is not something you can overlook.”
Strictly Come Dancing returns next Saturday on BBC One.
