Mike Bushell may be known for his string of TV blunders, but BBC bosses hope he’ll be better on his feet as they reportedly sign the sports presenter up for the next Strictly Come Dancing.

The 53-year-old sports host, who has been adding his own entertainment to the BBC’s live sports segments with his infamous gaffes, will be following in the footsteps of other BBC Breakfast stars.

Chris Hollins, 48 and Ore Oduba, 33, have both won the Glitterball trophy during their seasons back in 2009 and 2016, setting the bar high for potential competitor Mike.

While the jury is still out on whether Mike’s foxtrot will be better than his waltz, the star has already won over the hearts of viewers with his entertaining mishaps.

Back in April 2016, the father-of-three not only wet himself with water while two presenters were conducting a serious interview, but the sports presenter embarrassingly also split his trousers much to the amusement of Breakfast host Sally Nugent.

Just a couple years after that, Mike accidentally created another TV gold moment by falling into the pool while interviewing a team of UK swimmers competing in the commonwealth games.

The sports host completely missed a step, plunging him straight into the deep end of the pool with his microphone included.

Speaking as swimmers Sarah Vasey, Adam Peaty and Ben Proud were in hysterics, Bushell said: ‘I didn’t see the step! Sorry about that.

‘Well that’s given you all a good laugh. Just look before you get in a swimming pool in future.

‘All the people watching here are literally on the floor.’

Mike also made headlines for appearing to cup the breast of one of his co-presenters Carol Kirkwood who presents the weather for the network.

But despite accidentally tickling our funny bones with his comical mistakes, Strictly bosses are hoping that Mike’s ‘charm’ can wow viewers in the competition.

An insider told The Sun: ‘Producers are keen to tap into the laughs that Mike can bring to the show, and the fact that he’s now one of the most familiar faces on BBC Breakfast.

‘They’re also conscious of the fact he could be the dark horse of the competition. Not only have his predecessors triumphed on Strictly, but he keeps himself physically fit.’

Mike certainly could give his competitors a run for their money in the fitness department after admitting that he has taken part in more than 250 sports as a reporter.

We can bet swimming was probably one of them, ey Mike.
