Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has spoken out in her first social media post since testing positive for Covid-19.

The professional dancer and her celebrity partner Tom Fletcher were confirmed to have contracted Covid on Sunday.

It came hours after they made their debut during the first live show of the new Strictly series, but they will be forced to miss the next episode as they self-isolate.

In her latest Instagram post, Amy, 31, wrote: ‘Unfortunately @tomfletcher and I have tested positive for Covid-19. I’m not suffering any symptoms but am now isolating at home.

‘I have no doubt that over the next 10 days my mind will be going crazy with choreography ideas ready to get back on the strictly dance floor for the live show in week 3!’

She added: ‘Thank you for all of the support and good luck to all of the couples this week. I will be cheering you all on.’

The dancer was supported by her fellow Strictly co-stars, both past and present, with Oti Mabuse commenting: ‘We love you can’t wait to see you soon.’

Former Strictly winner Stacey Dooley wrote: ‘Oh darlin…💜.’

Graziano Di Prima, who is currently partnered with Judi Love, said: ‘Darling😔, see you back in the dance floor soon ❤️.’

Coronation Street and Hollyoaks actress Katie McGlynn also commented with a sad face emoji and red heart.

Karen Hauer, who is partnered up with celeb Greg Wise, added: ‘Love you babe.’

AJ Pritchard also said: ‘Sending love & so sad to hear.. ❤️ can’t wait to see you back on the floor.’

A Strictly spokesperson confirmed both Amy and Tom had tested positive for coronavirus in a statement, which said: ‘Tom Fletcher and Amy Dowden have tested positive for Covid-19. The pair are now self-isolating separately following the latest government guidelines.

‘While they will both miss Saturday’s live show, Strictly Come Dancing protocols mean that all being well, they will return the following week.’

Earlier on Sunday, Tom, 36, announced he was pulling out of McFly’s gig in Glasgow tonight after falling ill.

A statement shared on the band’s official Twitter account read: ‘Unfortunately Tom is unwell and won’t be onstage with us tonight in Glasgow. He sends huge and heartfelt apologies to all the fans he won’t see tonight.

‘The show will still be going ahead, we’re looking forward to seeing you all and need you guys to sing extra loud for us tonight.’

Tom added a short message himself, telling fans: ‘So, so sorry.’

The All About You singer, who is married to Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! winner Giovanna Fletcher, made his first appearance on Strictly on Saturday evening, where he and Amy performed a Cha Cha to Earth, Wind and Fire’s September.

Strictly Come Dancing returns Saturday at 7pm on BBC One.
