Strictly Come Dancing is under threat of being cancelled as coronavirus is making it impossible for stars to sign up.

According to reports, the series is feeling the pressure to get celebs on board as the UK goes into lockdown.

But despite the future of the show remaining uncertain, sources are claiming the team are ‘determined’ the show go ahead by any means necessary.

‘Many of our preparations for the series – such as casting dancers and working on choreography – can be done virtually if needed,’ a source told The Sun.

‘One option we could look at further down the line is filming without a studio audience – as the Let’s Dance team are doing in Germany.’

However, they added that casting has yet to get anyone on board, with talks normally taking place by now.

Typically, the series launches every September, with announcements made across two weeks before the launch show pairs the competitors with their partners.

Six weeks later, the first live performances launch in the now iconic ballroom, with participants then being knocked out until there’s a winner.

A BBC spokesperson said: ‘We will continue to review all productions on a case by case basis and will continue to follow the latest news and advice from the Foreign Office, World Health Organisation and Public Health England.’

Strictly Come Dancing is available for catch-up on BBC iPlayer.
