Strictly Come Dancing 2019: Shock reason Alex Scott’s Samba slammed by viewers revealed

This week saw Strictly Come Dancing star Alex Scott perform the Samba to Joyful Joyful from Sister Act. While she impressed the judges with her energy, she and professional dancer Neil Jones only scored 17 points, which left them at the bottom of the leaderboard. And, it seems they didn’t do enough to impress viewers either.

The theme for the quarter-final was Musicals as each of the couples performed from a well-loved theatre show.

However, viewers pointed out Joyful Joyful is not from the Sister Act musical.

Taking to Twitter to complain, one viewer shared: “Okay, I’ll say it. Joyful Joyful is not in Sister Act the Musical. Sorry about it. #StrictlyComeDancing #strictly #StrictlyComeDancing2019.”

Another added: “#factcheck #strictly Joyful Joyful is from Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit.”

“@bbcstrictly I may be wrong but isn’t Joyful Joyful only featured in the movie and not the musical? #Strictly #SisterAct,” a third wrote.

Someone else shared: “Glad to see I’m not alone in annoyance at the misidentification of #SisterAct2 as #SisterAct. #JusticeForSisterAct2 @bbcstrictly #Strictly.”

Following their performance, judge Bruno Tonioli said he was left a little confused by their dance.

He told Alex and Neil: “I was feeling [the joy]. Oh yeah, you’ve got it.

“But the things is, it was kind of a street, commercial flavoured Samba. Once you go into the street/commercial groove, all your accents are in the downbeat.

“Once you get in to do the Samba proper, then you don’t have the correct bounce.

“So stylistically, the Samba wasn’t quite right. So yes, it was happy, it was joyful, it was a strong performance.

“But when I go to judge the Samba, it was danced in a hip-hop way, you know what I mean? You put us in a very weird position.”

However, Craig Revel Horwood disagreed with his fellow judge, saying he thought it was “refreshing”.

“Well I quite like weird positions Bruno, darling,” he remarked.

“And, I liked the Samba street element, I thought it was refreshing.”

However, Craig added: “You could have done with some more bounce and some more hip action but I really really enjoyed it.”

While Alex found herself at the bottom of the leaderboard, Chris Ramsey is favourite to be eliminated.

Coral have cut his odds of being eliminated to just 11-10.

Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead said: “For the third week in a row, we make Chris the hot favourite to be eliminated from Strictly.

“He’s managed to survive the last two but his time is beginning to run out and this weekend could well be his final dance.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues tomorrow on BBC One at 7.10pm.
