Strictly Come Dancing 2019: Shirley slammed by fans over ‘harsh’ Emma Barton criticism

After it was thought that Emma Barton and Anton Du Beke would be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing this weekend, they performed their best dance to date and received one of their highest scores. Despite seemingly positive comments from the judges, some fans deemed Shirley’s comments were “harsh”.

Emma and her professional dance partner Anton did not perform brilliantly last week with their Rumba, receiving their lowest score yet, 22.

However, that seemed to have changed last night when they performed their Theatre/Jazz which earned them a combined total of 33, their second highest score in the series.

The judges generally gave positive comments, but head Judge Shirley Ballas seemed to have made a bad impression on some fans.

In her feedback, she said: “Well a nice peripheral vision at the side so you could stay synchronised for the most part.

One fan tweeted: “Shirley has a problem either with Anton or Emma.”

Another commented: “Is it just me or does Shirley seem to not like Emma? The feedback was good but she’s so straight to the point with her and seems like she is forcing a smile.”

“Even when Shirley is ‘nice’ she seems to be forcing it with Emma,” a third chimed in.

A fourth added: “Generally, one of your better dances’ lmao, Shirley still sounds so rude to Emma, like she can’t even help it at this point.”

Last week Shirley’s comments were brutal as she critiqued the couple’s routine and said: “The only timing I could read was the basic, alemana and the sliding doors, three bars of Rumba. The rest of it, I have no idea on what count you were dancing on.”

However, on a brighter note, judge Bruno Tonioli said she did “very well.”

Craig was hugely impressed by their performance as he said to Emma: “Your dance my darling.”

Motsi Mabuse complimented their timing, the music and their movements.

In the end, Shirley added that it was “one of their better dances” but Emma and Anton seemed to be over the moon with Craig’s praises.

In other Strictly news, Alex Scott’s original partner Neil Jones made a return to the dance floor last night.

The pro dancer took two weeks off from dancing with his partner due to a foot injury which occurred during training.

For the past two weeks, Alex has been dancing with pro dancer Kevin Clifton and the pair seemed to have been doing well.

Alex scored 31 with her Jive yesterday which was the same score she received for her American Smooth last week.

Strictly Come Dancing will return on Saturday at 7.05 pm on BBC One.
