Strictly Come Dancing 2019: Richard Arnold reveals Piers Morgan’s secret ‘obsession’

Richard was a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing in 2012 with pro-dancer Erin Boag and the pair were eliminated in week seven but he is back and very excited for the Christmas special. The GMB host was quick to expose an on-set secret explaining Piers Morgan’s obsession with Strictly Come Dancing and how the morning telly hosts reacted when they found out.

Richard isn’t a stranger to glitz and glamour and he is so excited to be back dancing against the likes of Debbie McGee and Gemma Atkinson on Christmas Day.

Speaking to press including Express.co.uk, Richard explained: “Strictly at Christmas is a privilege because it doesn’t have the same jeopardy in it like the first time round.

“There is no danger of not going through to the next week and it is also pre-recorded although it very much is live when you’re there.”

Richard and his partner Luba Mushtuk will be dancing the American Smooth Foxtrot to a song from The Grinch.

But Richard is sure Piers could handle the intense competition, but it seems he just doesn’t understand the glitter.

The host explained: “He just doesn’t understand how that glitter just starts coursing through your veins and takes you to a place when we talk about Strictly and he just looks at us as he is totally baffled by it.

“I go to my Strictly place every time he starts talking about cricket, he starts talking about cricket and Charlotte and I are texting each other on the other side of the desk.

“It would be interesting to see if he would take to the floor, I’ve never actually seen him throw shapes.”

The GMB presenter revealed he remembered his love of dance the minute he got back into the training room.

He explained: “I’ve loved the training I really have, and because you’re on your own, you’re in suspended isolation.

“You’re literally like it’s just you and me and on a Sunday for a few hours, you leave the room and don’t know the routine but you get there and it’s brilliant and then of course they bring in a crew and lights go up and you’re like – showtime.”

The Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special airs on BBC on Christmas Day at 4.40pm.
