Strictly Come Dancing 2019: Eurovision winner to join line-up of BBC contest?

The BBC contest has seen all sorts of famous face slip into some sequins over the years.

Someone who made a splash on Strictly Come Dancing was astrologer and presenter Russell Grant.

Now, he’s revealed the name of a Eurovision winner he suggested to bosses and who he would like to sign-up.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Russell said: “There have been a lot of people I’ve wanted to sign up. Dana, she did All Kinds of Everything, she won Eurovision.

He added: “I suggested her but she never got on. She was huge in the 1980s.”

Dana, full name Dana Rosemary Scallon, won the Eurovision Song Contest for Ireland back in 1970 aged just 18.

The now 67-year-old claimed a victory with the winning track entitled “All Kinds of Everything”.

Following on from her singer career, she went on to serve as a Member of the European Parliament from 1999 to 2004.

Russell danced with Flavia Cacace back in the 2011 series before the pair were eliminated in week eight.

He dazzled in some of the programme’s most glitzy costumes and created a truly iconic moment for the show when he was shot out of a cannon as part of a routine.

One notable absentee is Pasha Kovalev who announced earlier this year that he would not be returning.

He said in a statement: “After scoring 93 perfect tens, reaching 4 finals lifting 1 glitter ball, it’s time for me to find a new challenge and so I’ve decided to make last year – my final season on Strictly.

“I’ve had five fantastic years, full of wonderful memories, thanks to the incredible partners, professionals and myriad of behind the scenes teams who all work to make Strictly the amazing production that it is.

“The biggest thanks go to all the members of the public who’ve supported me so much over the years – I look forward to seeing you on the Strictly Pro-Tour this spring, and for many future adventures to come!”

Strictly Come Dancing is expected to return to BBC One later this year.
