Strictly 2019: Shirley Ballas spills on real reason Catherine Tyldesley was eliminated

Strictly Come Dancing was an eventful affair over the weekend as Catherine Tyldesley was eliminated from the competition. The Coronation Street star and her professional partner, Johannes Radebe, were knocked out after losing to Mike Bushell and Katya Jones in the Dance Off.

Both Shirley Ballas and Craig Revel Horwood opted to eliminate Catherine and as the former is Head Judge, her decision was made final.

As a result, the 59-year-old has been subject to a barrage of abuse from fans online, but Shirley has refused to back down.

Speaking at the Pride of Britain Awards last night, Shirley opened up on Catherine’s exit.

She told The Sun: “Every time someone goes out, someone gets upset.

Craig Revel Horwood has said a very similar thing recently, telling Heart Breakfast yesterday how it was the public’s fault.

Speaking to Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden, the long-standing judge said: “For us, the judges, we have to judge the dance off only, not what happened previously or what is to become and you can only judge what you see in that one minute 30 and in my opinion, Mike had the cleaner dance.

“It’s quite simple and you know if it was another day or if Catherine was doing a Rumba for instance, against his Tango, then she would have won it.

“But you know it’s what happens on the day.”
