Stranger Things’ fourth season may well prove to, if not be the best, certainly be the biggest series of the sci-fi serial – as Netflix bosses have apparently extended it for an even longer run.

This follows on from the rapturous debut of the streaming sensation’s third series, which many fans saw as an improvement on the middling sophomore run.

Season four of the hybrid drama as already been confirmed, but producers clearly have set their sights even larger.

According to TV Line, the next run of episodes will run to nine, one more than the previous season but equal to that of the second.

A second season which was criticised for being too long and meandering, just saying…

‘There’s chatter that season four may actually consist of nine episodes, one more than initially planned,’ a source told the publication.

‘That would make Stranger Things 4 one the Netflix drama’s meatiest seasons ever (tied with its sophomore run).’

Following on from the renewal, Netflix has also signed the show’s creators, the Duffer Brothers, to an overall deal to produce TV and film content for the streaming service.

‘The Duffer Brothers have captivated viewers around the world with Stranger Things and we’re thrilled to expand our relationship with them to bring their vivid imaginations to other film and series projects our members will love,’ said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer, Netflix.

‘We can’t wait to see what The Duffer Brothers have in store when they step outside the world of The Upside Down.’

It’s already been reported that season 4 will not be the last of the sci-fi extravaganza – as it will essentially be split in two.

Although in a new report in We Got This Covered, it has been reported that creators The Duffer Brothers will be splitting the final season into two parts.

The report said the creators wanted to make season four last – although it’s suggested they want to extend the plot across season five.

So basically how we understand it, is that the second half of season four will continue into season five (with the same storyline).

Stranger Things seasons 1-3 are available to stream on Netflix now.
