Stranger Things season three may still be a few months away but Netflix finally treated fans to a full-length trailer this week. Moving away from its traditional Halloween-time release, the highly anticipated third season will be released in July 4 and will take place over a summer. The exciting new promo promises another gripping season, but one mysterious new character has fans intrigued…
Fans of Stranger Things were delighted to discover that Netflix had finally released a new trailer today (March 20).
Having been deprived of plot details for so long, the new two-minute promo provides a wealth of new footage for possible plot lines and theories to be endlessly debated between now and July.
The usual gang are all back to reprise their roles, with the addition of some new faces.
Finn Wolfhard (as Mike ), Millie Bobby Brown (as Eleven), Gaten Matarazzo (as Dustin), Caleb McLaughlin (as Lucas), Noah Schnapp (as Will), Sadie Sink (Max), Natalia Dyer (as Nancy) and Charlie Heaton (as Jonathan) are all reprising their roles and are all included in the trailer.
But one new face in particular in the trailer has aroused fans’ curiosity and that’s the man with the gun.

Who is the man with the gun in the Stranger Things season 3 trailer?
WARNING: This article contains potential spoilers for Stranger Things season 3
The short answer is, we don’t know who this mysterious gun-wielding man is but he looks like a villain.
He appears firstly at 1.44 minutes into the promo and then again at 2.15.
The first time he is shown he is seen in what looks like the House of Mirrors in the carnival.
This moment appears to be a homage to Terminator and the series is well-known for its 80s pop culture references.
The second time he is seen screaming and shooting a machine gun – a Scarface homage maybe?
So who could he be? Casting announcements do not reveal the character or the actor.
It’s possible that he works for the mysterious “Lynx Corporation” that has been referenced in previous promos.
Maybe he was sent to Hawkins to track down Eleven and will end up in a standoff with Hopper (David Harbour).
A shot of Hopper holding a gun at what looks like the carnival could indicate a potential confrontation.
It looks like the mysterious gunman will be one of season three’s antagonists along with Billy (Dacre Montgomery).
Whatever happens, we’ll have to wait until July 4 to find out.
Stranger Things season 3 will be released on Netflix on July 4
