Stormzy has topped the list of the UK’s most-watched music videos of 2019, with Sam Smith and Billie Eilish also making the cut.
Legends all round.
The Too Big For Your Boots hitmaker took the top spot with his track Vossi Bop, which is currently at 70 million overall views while Sam Smith and Normani’s hit Dancing With A Stranger came next, with 484 million overall views.
Also making the list were Billie Eilish’s Bad Guy, Ariana Grande’s 7 Rings, and Lil Nas X’s Old Town Road – no surprises there.
It’s been an incredible year for Stormzy, not least because of his historic set at Glastonbury.
The south Londoner, aka Big Mike, stormed onto the stage wearing a bulletproof jacket plastered with a large union jack on the back and front, going on to perform hit after hit.
Also landing a TIME magazine cover (as you do), Stormzy – real name Michael Omari – described it as ‘one of my proudest moments’.
‘I’ve stared at this cover for a few minutes and it feels like one of those “how the f***kkkk did man get here?!” moments,’ he said.
‘God’s favour and the ever lasting love and support you guys show me has elevated me to a place in life where this South London kid is worthy enough to grace the cover of the most prestigious publication in the World.’
And that’s not even to mention his instant hit Take Me Back To London with Ed Sheeran, later revealing he turned down a collaboration with Jay-Z.
Truly iconic.
YouTube, meanwhile, is looking back on 2019 with its Rewind lists, also listing Strictly Come Dancing’s Dianne Buswell as the most-subscribed breakout creator in the UK.
With the internet eagerly awaiting the platform’s yearly round-up video, despite last year’s becoming the most-disliked video of all time, teasers have revealed that K-Pop bands BTS and BLACKPINK are set to feature.
PewDiePie, Shane Dawson, James Charles, and The Try Guys’ Eugene Lee Yang will also make an appearance.
