Stormzy performed a surprise gig packed-to-the-brim in Croydon to thank his fans for their unwavering support.

The Vossi Bop rapper gave his fans an epic set at the popular food hall and culture outlet Box Park having posted about the surprise a few hours before.

Stormzy even teased a few bars from his brand new track Still Disappointed, which hasn’t yet been performed publicly – and we bet Wiley was quaking as it happened.

As he’s a man of the people, the grime artist spent time meeting those who came to watch and took selfies after the show.

At the gig, Stormzy told the crowd: ‘It’s a real blessing from god to have my career – I thank and appreciate everyone in here. The kind of career I’ve had, I owe to you guys.

‘A free show is the least I can do for my fans and I wish I could shower you all individually with love. Thank you for allowing me to be the artist I am and for allowing me to be the top of my game.’

Stormzy wanted to thank his supporters following his recent success which has him constantly dominating the UK charts with his second studio album Heavy Is The Head.

The Crown rapper achieved the number one spot on both official singles and album chart this week.

Stormzy initially posted about the secret even on Twitter and Instagram on Saturday (18 January), saying that the location would be announced on the day at 4pm.

That must have been a long 24-hour wait for die-hard fans.

In the end, over 1,200 people queued to see him shortly after 4pm.

Fans are still recovering from the pop-up event but we don’t blame them as we’d be the same.

One fan tweeted: ‘Absolutely honoured to be at @stormzy’s private show tonight. It was [fire emoji]’.

‘Ok @stormzy is a versatile king, one minute we’re chanting suck your mum and the second we are at church putting our hands up for the glory of god,’ another tweeted. ‘He can do it all and so can we.’

One unlucky fan wrote: ‘Damn it wish I was close to Croydon! This show looks HISTORICALLY incredible.’

If only our office was closer to Croydon!
