Teams from some of the most celebrated underground ballroom houses of all time square off in the new trailer for the upcoming competition series, Legendary, premiering May 27th on HBO Max.
The new trailer is packed with tantalizing highlights from the series, which pits eight houses against each other over the course of nine balls to determine who gets to take home the grand prize of $100,000 — and, of course, bragging rights. But while the fashion and dancing are front and center, the Legendary trailer also highlights testimonials from longtime house members on what ballroom and voguing has meant to them: “You’re taking what people hate about you and putting it in their faces — it’s empowering,” says one contestant.
Legendary will be hosted by famed dancer and Pose star Dashaun Wesley, while another ballroom stalwart, DJ MikeQ, will handle the music. The judges table will feature stylist Law Roach, dancer Leiomy Maldonado, Megan Thee Stallion, and Jameela Jamil.
Legendary is one of several new shows set to premiere on HBO Max, along with the anthology rom-com series Love Life, the a new crafting series Craftopia and a kid-friendly talk show starring Sesame Street‘s Elmo, The Not-Too-Late show With Elmo. The new streaming service will also boast all of HBO’s new and old shows, plus a vast library of movies and non-HBO TV series like Friends and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
