Steve McManaman says he would ‘love’ Liverpool to sign a winger in the summer to give their attack ‘something different’.

The Reds were crowned Premier League champions for the first time in 30 years as Chelsea beat Manchester City 2-1 at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night.

An emotional Jurgen Klopp branded the achievement as ‘incredible’, while the German boss’ side still have seven games remaining to extend their 23-point gap over City even further.

While Liverpool legend McManaman predicts that some players on the periphery of the first-team squad will leave this summer, he would like to see a winger come through the doors at Anfield to offer an alternative to Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

‘They are going to lose players because players within that squad will want to leave for more games,’ McManaman told BT Sport

‘Like Adam Lallana who might leave for more first-team games, whether it’s [Dejan] Lovren or [Xherdan] Shaqiri, other players will move on.

‘Yes, some of the younger players will be adapted into the first team squad which is great to see, but they still need more bodies.

‘They still need experienced players who can come in just in case one of the main men gets injured for a while.

‘They need to come in and play 20-30 games and play to the level of those around them and if that’s the front three, it’s very hard to replicate.

‘It’s a difficult task for Jurgen Klopp to achieve whether they need another central defender or cover at left-back.

‘I would love them to sign a winger because they don’t have a true winger and if Plan A isn’t working, they can always go to a tricky winger who can do something different.’
