Sterling ready to follow in Rashford's footsteps with new foundation

Raheem Sterling is keen on following the fine acts of charity made by Marcus Rashford this week by starting up his own foundation.

The Manchester United striker has fought government officials to pass a bill that would see free school meals extended throughout the half-term.

The motion was defeated in the House of Commons but Rashford has been sharing the efforts made by businesses across the country to defy the government.

And Sterling is set to follow in his footsteps by forming a new foundation.

The Manchester City star started from humble beginnings and is keen to give back to society, as has his club rival.

The foundation is set to help those most disadvantaged and give aid to those most in need.

It will include giving university scholarships and work placements with the idea that it will give young people a second chance.

Sterling called upon his own experiences growing up in London, insisting he wants to be a helping hand.

“That’s me finished with the ‘what can happen, what should happen’. Now I’m trying to put into place stuff I can do myself,” Sterling told The Sunday Times.

“Stuff to give young people in the same circumstances I was in another shot.

“If there is a university they want to go to, football equipment they need, other things. I want to be a helping hand.

“What will make me happy is seeing I am able to help.

“Even if it’s five people, even if it’s one, at least I have helped someone come out of their bubble and experienced that there is something better to England.

“It comes down to, OK, I come from northwest London, I move out of my area.

“What good is it if I take all I have made in life, my success and just build a big house somewhere?

“I’m happy, cool, but that’s not who I am.”
