Steps star Claire Richards has revealed that she was rejected from appearing on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here for ‘not being fat enough’ to take part.

The singer has been open about her battle with fluctuating weight, losing six stone in 2017 in a bid to have a baby.

But she claims that after slimming down, bosses of ITV jungle show I’m A Celebrity lost interest in her participating.

Speaking on podcast Official Charts: Take The Hit, the popstar said: I went for a meeting (with I’m A Celebrity) once, a long, long time ago.

‘But it was a time when I’d just lost quite a lot of weight but they didn’t realise that I had.’

‘They wanted me to be fat apparently, that was the excuse I got back, that I was too thin,’ she added.

An ITV spokeswoman denied the allegation, and told Press Association: ‘I’m A Celebrity would never cast campmates based on their shape or size – all celebrities are assessed for their suitability to life in the jungle.’

While Claire’s time on the show never ended up happening, the One For Sorrow singer felt it was for the best, and added: ‘I’m glad, because I watch it on TV now and I love it but I know I wouldn’t last two seconds.’

Instead, Claire tried her hand at a number of other competitions and reality shows – including Celebrity Big Brother, coming in fourth place in 2013.

Now, she’s back and raring to go with her music career, touring with Steps again after they reunited, and releasing her solo album earlier this year.

The singer has now landed a coveted spot at Barclaycard’s British Summer Time – acting as support for international megastar, Celine Dion.

Official Charts: Take The Hit podcast is available now via Acast on iTunes and Spotify.
