Steph McGovern: BBC Breakfast host reveals her ‘worry’ about giving birth live on TV

Steph McGovern, 37, stepped in for Louise Minchin, 50, to present with Dan Walker,42, on BBC Breakfast yesterday.

The pair hosted some of the show sitting down on hay as they presented from a farming set, as part of the BBC’s Farming Focus week.

Ahead of the segment, BBC star, Victoria Fritz, gave Steph a glimpse of the decorated set.

Victoria tweeted a video with the caption: “Behind the scenes… gearing you up for #BBCFarmingFocus here on @BBCBreakfast.”

Steph, who is pregnant with her first child, joked it looked like a nativity play and said she was “worried” she was playing the role of Mary.

The expectant mum tweeted: “I’m starting to worry that when I stand on that set tomorrow it’s going to look like I am about give birth to the son of God.”

Many of Steph’s 366,000 Twitter followers found her comparison hilarious with one writing: “Anything is possible lol.”

“We’re sure you’ll be fine Mary,” joked another.

A third was a little distracted with Steph’s suggestion and commented: “Is that a hint you are having a boy?”

Dan shared a snap of himself and Steph surrounded by fake farm animals as they presented the show together.

He captioned the photo: “Morning all. We are gearing up for #BBCFarmingFocus this week on #BBCBreakfast.

“Today we are discussing the effect of climate change on farming.”

Meanwhile, BBC weather presenter, Carol Kirkwood, was left a little shocked as it appeared Steph had called her a cow.

As Steph went to introduce Carol, who was waiting to deliver the weather forecast, the pregnant star made a little mishap.

Steph said: “We’re going from lots of cows now to another one… which sounded like I was going to say Carol’s a cow but I’m definitely not saying that.”

Dan shook his head before he laughed: “Good job I didn’t say that, I’d be in all sorts of trouble.”

“Oh man, I should just go home shouldn’t I?” Steph added.

She continued: “Carol is at one of London’s Royal Parks this morning with the weather.”

“Carol, save me! Save me!” she exclaimed, addressing the meteorologist.

To which Carol replied: “Yeah I was shocked there for a minute myself Steph, good morning everybody.”

BBC Breakfast airs on BBC One from 6am.
