Steph McGovern: 'All sorted now' BBC Breakfast star speaks out on major dilemma

Steph McGovern, 37, revealed she has not slowed down since taking a break from her BBC Breakfast duties amid her impending baby arrival. The broadcaster took to the micro-blogging site, where she told her 378,000 followers, she had visited students at Hatch End High School to discuss careers and life skills. She later followed up the tweet to thank a TFL worker for spotting the pregnant journalist on a tube without a “Baby on Board” badge. Steph tweeted: “And thanks to @TfL worker Stan at Harrow and Wealdstone station for spotting me and the bump without a badge on! All sorted now. Cheers Stan. #babyonboard.”

She accompanied the tweet with a selfie shot of herself sporting the badge.

TfL supplies free of charge Baby on Board badges for mothers-to-be to let other passengers know that hey have a good reason to give up their seat.

Fans were quick to comment on the post, as one person said: “@TfL #babyonboard is a great scheme. I had so many people offering seats and being kind to me when I was wearing it on my last visit to London at 33 weeks pregnant.”

Another person tweeted: “I still have mine, keeping it for a memory box (when I get time to make one!)”

While a third person added: “Fantastic initiative. Would be great if other train companies would offer the same.”

The small-screen star had initially posted a message telling her followers she had visited a secondary school to chat with them about career opportunities.

Steph said: “Squeezed in a visit to @HatchEndHigh today to chat to students about careers/skills/life. The teachers there are working hard to make sure all pupils feel valued whatever their academic attainment. Great example of mixed traditional academic and vocational education.”

Meanwhile, the business correspondent revealed she will be making her final television appearance on Have I Got News For You in two weeks time, unless her baby arrives sooner.

Steph has currently been fronting the BBC series of Watchdog after being on maternity leave from BBC Breakfast.

The television star mused: “Just wrapped on my new series with @HughFW – coming out in Jan on @BBCOne.

“I’ve got one episode of @BBCWatchdog to do next week. Then my final bit of telly before the little one arrives will be hosting @haveigotnews in two weeks (unless the baby has other plans of course!).”

Fans flocked to comment on the post, with many giving their well wishes to the star on her pregnancy.

One person said: “You should be a regular Have I Got News For You host, you make me roar with laughter with your put downs. Maybe next year. Meanwhile, take this time to rest and then enjoy your baby. Your sunny smile in the mornings will be missed until you return.”

Another person quipped: “Blimey, are you that close to the due date?”

While a third person added: “Good luck Steph! Hope the birth goes well!”

According to The Sun, Steph told family and friends she is due to give birth next month.
