Steph McGovern addresses Dan Walker being ‘missing’ from her BBC Breakfast goodbye

Steph McGovern, 37, is expecting her first child with her girlfriend, with the little one due in November.

The business reporter said goodbye to her BBC Breakfast co-stars yesterday on her last show before heading off on maternity leave.

Steph received a video which included messages from her colleagues, Louise Minchin, Naga Munchetty and Ben Thomspon.

But Dan Walker was missing, which a Twitter fan picked up on.

They wrote to Steph: “No Dan Walker @mrdanwalkermessage, hope he was missed accidentally. Good luck Steph.”

Steph reassured the viewer as she replied: “He has sent a separate one…..he likes his own space.”

In the video, Louise sent good luck wishes to the expectant mum and joked she will be a loyal BBC Breakfast viewer in the early mornings.

“Stephanie my darling, loads and loads of luck,” she began.

“It will absolutely be the best thing you have ever done in your whole life and the most brilliant thing from our point of view is, I know that you will become a loyal BBC Breakfast viewer because at 6am it’s just us to talk to!”

Naga was filmed on holiday sending her love to Steph, in front of a gorgeous backdrop.

The BBC Breakfast host said: “Hello from Montenegro, I’m sorry I won’t be there for your last day I’m going to miss you loads.

“As you can see, I’m sweating a lot. I don’t think though, what I’ve doing today is as much hard work as you’re facing.”

She continued: “But, I know you’re going to love every minute and be a brilliant mum. I’ll miss you.”

Ben said in his message: “I can’t believe that you’re off leaving me to all those high-vis, hard hats, white coats, the wellies…

“I know how much you love them, and how much you will miss them, but I’m going to send you some dinky baby-sized ones instead.”

He went on: “Listen, what you probably won’t miss are all those late nights, the early starts, the lack of sl… Oh. Yeah.”

With a cheeky grin, he added: “Good luck with that. Can’t wait to meet the new arrival. Good luck and see you real soon, bye for now.”

In response to the messages, Steph said: “Awwww just seen this — my TV family!

“Yep it’s my last day on the Breakfast sofa for a while. I’ll be on @BBCWatchdog for the new series starting next Thurs and then it’s [baby emoji] time.”

BBC Breakfast airs on BBC One from 6am.
