Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker trailer hints Daisy Ridley’s Rey is going to the dark side and we have chills

The new trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has dropped a major hint about Rey’s destiny and it’s left fans in quite a tizzy.

Last week, the Star Wars cast including Daisy Ridley and John Boyega, attended Disney’s D23 expo to unveil the first official poster.

And now Disney have dropped the two-minute trailer and, naturally, there are so many questions.

The clip opens by taking us on a trip down memory lane with a montage of scenes from the original Star Wars series – featuring the late, great Carrie Fisher – before bringing us into the present with a slow version of Yoda’s Theme.

Luke Skywalker says: ‘We’ve passed on all we know. 1000 generations live in you now, but this is your fight.’

There are appearances from Darth Maul, newcomer Jannah and C-3PO but it’s Rey that’s got fans speculating.

At one point, she’s seen fighting with Kylo Ren, played by Adam Driver, in the middle of the ocean but the final shot raises all the questions.

In her final appearance in the trailer, Rey is seen wearing a dark hood and brandishing a red double lightsaber instead of the blue one she inherited from Luke Skywalker.

The red lightsaber is similar to one used by former villain Darth Maul so it looks like our beloved heroine may be heading to the dark side.

Hopefully it’ll be a happy end for Rey after Daisy recently said she’s unlikely to reprise the role after The Rise of Skywalker.

In July, the 27-year-old actress told Vulture: ‘I can’t actually imagine it right now.

‘The ending to Rise of Skywalker … it’s very satisfying. It felt like an end. I don’t know what’ll happen in however many years. There are so many characters in the Star Wars world who’ve never been explored… ‘So right now, I don’t think so.’

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – aka Episode IX – is set for release on 20 December.
