Back in 1977, the original Star Wars movie released with cast and crew unaware of what a huge and influential success it would become. Now Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill has corrected an article’s reason for A New Hope’s reshoots. The 68-year-old tweeted his #TrueFunFact out to fans.
Hamill tweeted: “This article states we reshot the rescue of Leia scene because I ‘botched’ my line.
“In fact, we had to redo it weeks later, because my name was changed to Skywalker AFTER we did it the 1st time (when my name was still Starkiller). #TrueFunFact.”
Dedicated Star Wars fans will know George Lucas changed Luke Starkiller to Skywalker as he felt the surname was too violent for his hero.
The original name was paid homage to in The Force Awakens as the name of Kylo Ren’s new Death Star.

Of course, we may have seen the last of Hamill but not necessarily of Luke Skywalker.
After all, Alden Ehrenreich starred in Solo as a younger version of Harrison Ford’s smuggler.
Hamill has repeatedly joked about Sebastian Stan being his son as the Avengers star looks so much like his younger self.
Certainly, the 37-year-old could play Luke in a film or TV show – whether starring or as a cameo – in the three-decade period set between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.
We’ve already seen a digitally constructed version of this Luke and Leia in a flashback scene during The Rise of Skywalker.
Now Disney own Lucasfilm the studio shows no sign of stopping and are exploring different narrative avenues for the franchise going forwards.
Most recently Taika Waititi has signed on to co-write and direct a Star Wars movie.
While The Mandalorian season 2 hits Disney+ later this year.
