The Star Wars saga may have come to a close at the end of 2019, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the end for fans of the franchise.

According to reports, Star Wars now has a new film ‘in the works’ and it’s looking at a release date for 2020.

Although it’s not known whether the movie will be released in cinemas or saved for Disney’s new streaming service, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

J.D. Dilliard, who is best known for his work on sci-fi thriller Sleight, and writer Matt Owens, who has worked on Marvel shows Luke Cage and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, are thought to have been brought in for the new film.

Little is known when it comes to details of the movie, along with who will direct or star in the film.

It’s said to be a completely unrelated project to a Star Wars film that was pitched by Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige and Last Jedi director Rian Johnson.

Filmmaker Taika Waititi has also been linked to a new project in the Star Wars universe, but it’s not known whether that too is a standalone movie or one being developed by Feige.

The Star Wars saga wrapped up in December with ninth film Rise of Skywalker, that brought both the new sequel trilogy and the over-arching narrative of all nine films to a close.

Rise of Skywalker starred the likes of Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac and Mark Hamill, as well as Carrie Fisher, thanks to unused footage from The Last Jedi.

Carrie passed away in 2016, after suffering a heart attack, but still appears in Rise of Skywalker, thanks to old footage previously shot that made sure director JJ Abrams could ensure Leia’s story came full circle.

Star Wars has since seen many spin-offs born, including Disney+ series The Mandalorian, which debuted in November last year and has already begun filming for a second season.

Show creater Jon Favreau teased in December that the series – that gave us the gift that is Baby Yoda – will be welcoming a new character into the fold.
