Star Wars Cad Bane: George Lucas based bounty hunter on Hollywood hero

WARNING: This article contains full spoilers for The Book of Boba Fett Episode 6.

This week’s episode of The Book of Boba Fett was certainly a shocker. On top of Luke Skywalker kickstarting his own doom, the Marshal had a brutal interaction with a stranger from the desert. Although the blue alien was never named, Star Wars fans know without a doubt that this bounty hunter was none other than Cad Bane, one of the deadliest warriors in the galaxy. But he has a surprising origin.

Cad Bane was first introduced in series one of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV show. The villain has worked with a number of evildoers, including Darth Sideous and the Hutts. But the most crucial part of his storyline came when he took Boba Fett under his wing while he was just a boy.

The legendary warrior looked after the child and taught him how to be a bounty hunter, setting him up to become the scourge of the galaxy that he is known as today.

However, when George Lucas was coming up with the character of Cad Bane, he looked to the cinema he enjoyed when he was a child.

On the official Star Wars blog, it was revealed Lucas based many of the Star Wars bounty hunters on parts of Sergio Leone’s Dollars Trilogy. The Dollars Trilogy consists of three films, 1964’s A Fistful of Dollars, 1965’s For a Few Dollars More and 1966’s The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.

Cad Bane was specifically based on one character from the third film in the series: Angel Eyes.

Of course, Angel Eyes’ story does not end well. In the film the villain gets involved in a standoff, being shot and killed in the process.

Similarly, at the end of the Clone Wars story, Cad Bane was shot and left for dead by Boba Fett, but it looks like he is back to find his revenge.

Cad Bane has just been introduced as a major player in The Book of Boba Fett, so it is likely he will be looking to take on the bounty hunter one last time. And, considering Cad Bane has already made a point to shoot the Marshal, things may get a bit personal with Din Djarin involved as well. But will Mando be able to go toe-to-toe with the quickest gun in the galaxy?

Fans will have to wait and see.

The Book of Boba Fett and the Star Wars saga are available on Disney Plus now.
