Traditionally there is only one main trailer for Star wars movies. In the final run-up to the main Christmas big screen release, there is always a flurry of TV spots, online trailers and teasers, with numerous international variations. However, there is only one main trailer. Fans have already had the teaser in April, which tantalised with one scene and then a dizzying whirl of flashing moments. Next weekend, the biggest event in the Disney calendar takes place. Star Wars Episode 9 is the next major Disney property.
The D23 Expo takes place at the Anaheim Convention Center in California from August 23 to 25.
Can fans hope for a major Star wars treat?
The good news is absolutely definitely yes. But it is unlikely to be a Star Wars trailer. The date for the main trailer is almost certainly going to be in line with the previous two films.
What fans can expect is the first proper look at the Disney+ series The Mandalorian as well as a hugely exciting announcement about the long-awaited involvement of Ewan MacGregor back in Jedi robes.
US industry sites earlier today started to spread the news that the Scottish star has finally signed back on as Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Rather than the previously planned Star wars Stort anthology movie, it looks like he will have his own Disney+ limited series.
The Disney+ streaming platform is a huge priority for the company, so it is no surprise D23 will be geared towards promoting the upcoming original shows which will launch from December this year.
As for the Rise of Skywalker, every sign indicates it will fall half-way between now and the release of the movie in cinemas.
The main Force Awakens trailer was released on October 19, 2015. The main Last Jedi trailer landed on October 10, 2017.
It seems inevitable the main Rise of Skywalker trailer will arrive mid-October.
The rest of D23 will be focussed on Disney Parks, Animation and the 80th Anniversary of Marvel Comics.
