Star Trek video games creating Star Trek synergy – Redshirts Always Die

The world of Star Trek is getting some more backstory to it!

If you’re looking forward to the upcoming Telltale-like video game, Star Trek: Resurgence, you’re going to want to check out IDW soon enough. The publisher has revealed they are releasing a five-issue mini-series that will tie into the story, and share the same name.

The series will detail the events of a catastrophic event affecting the crew of the USS Resolute sometime prior to the events of the game. The series will be written by Andrew Grant and Dan Martin, while Josh Hood will provide the art. The comic releases in November.

Here’s the synopsis of the book courtesy of TrekMovie.com;

On a windswept planet bordering the notoriously hostile Talarian Republic, a scientist on the cusp of developing technology that will revolutionize warp goes missing. The crew of the U.S.S. Resolute is tasked with an urgent stealth mission to recover Dr. Leah Brahms and keep her research out of enemy hands!

Star Trek: Resurgence is coming out later this year.

Star Trek: Prodigy is also getting a new book as well

The Star Trek: Resurgence game isn’t the only one getting a book-like release, as Star Trek: Prodigy will also be releasing its own written word narrative this year as well. Coming in October, Prodigy’s video game will arrive, dubbed Star Trek: Prodigy – Supernova. The game is also getting its own written tie-in, but it won’t be a comic, but a youth-teen-aimed adventure book.

Robb Pearlman is writing the book and will come out after the game, with a tentative January release window.

Here’s the synopsis for the book;

When the Protostar crash-lands in a peculiar star system, the crew ends up separated and Dal and Gwyn must work together to find their missing crewmates. They don’t have much time, though: the nearby star is destabilized and in danger of creating a supernova. Then Dal and Gwyn discover evil droids patrolling the area, and they look just like the Watchers back in Tars Lamora. How will Dal and Gwyn confront this nightmare from their past…and prevent an explosion in their near future?

With the fall of Eaglemoss, Star Trek fans will probably want to re-shuffle their focus on collectibles, and having two video games, and two-tie-in stories will certainly give fans another item to hunt down.

It may not be as cool as a ship you build in stages, but it’s something different and something that looks just as good as a collectible.
