He died from complications following a heart attack, his friend Dawn Butler told The Hollywood Reporter.

And Pollard – who so inspired actor Michael J Fox that the Back To The Future star employed his middle initial for his stage name – also made an impact on the small screen.

During his career – that spanned seven decades – he also appeared in the TV series Lost In Space and in episodes of Star Trek.

Other film credits include Dirty Little Billy, Roxanne, Scrooged, Dick Tracey and Robert Redford film Little Fauss And Big Halsy.

Alison Martino, who first reported Pollard’s death, wrote an emotional tribute on her Vintage Los Angeles Facebook page.

TRIBUTES TO STAR

She said of New Jersey-born Pollard: “He was quite a character without knowing it.

“He walked EVERYWHERE and never repeated his stories because he had so many.

“The only thing he repeated was his love for Turner Classic Movies.

“And you could never call him after 7:30 because he’d be watching Jeopardy.”

Director Rob Zombie – who worked with Pollard in 2003’s House Of 1000 Corpses – posted a tribute to the actor online.

Zombie wrote: “We have lost another member of our House of 1,000 Corpses family. I woke up to the news that Michael J. Pollard had died.”

In his 2002 memoir Lucky Man, Fox recalled his decision to use Pollard’s J initial – because the Screen Actors’ Guild already had a performer named Michael Fox.
