Star Trek actor Robert Walker Jr has died at the age of 79.

The sad news was confirmed by his family, which was reported by the official Star Trek website.

Announcing the star’s passing, they wrote: ‘StarTrek.com is saddened to report the passing of Robert Walker Jr, the actor who played the titular role in Star Trek: The Original Series episode Charlie X.

‘Walker Jr. passed at age 79, according to his family.’

He was best known for his role as Charlie Evans in the TV series, and also starred alongside Jack Nicholson in the 1969 movie Easy Rider.

Robert was part of a famous family, and was the son of actress Jennifer Jones and Robert Walker, who is known for his part in Alfred Hitchcock’s thriller Strangers On A Train.

Tributes have been pouring in from fans since the news broke who have been applauding the actor for his incredible work.

Sad to hear of the passing of Robert Walker Jr,’ one wrote: ‘Everyone remembers his classic Star Trek role as Charlie X, but I’m a big fan of his Billy Hyatt in THE WAR WAGON, where he plays a heavy drinking explosives expert, part of John Wayne’s heist crew.’

Someone else added: ‘RIP Robert Walker Jr., son of Strangers on a Train’ Robert Walker and Jennifer Jones.

‘Charlie X was the first Star Trek episode I ever saw (at 7), and his performance as the fragile, frightening, and tragic Charlie made it a sublimely terrifying experience I haven’t forgotten.’

Another said: ‘I’m very sad to have to share the news that Robert Walker Jr, star of films such as Ensign Pulver, Easy Rider and The Hook died yesterday at the age of 79. RIP Robert.’

Robert’s death comes after DC Fontana’s passing, who wrote the Charlie X episode of Star Trek.

She passed away in her home in Los Angeles this week at the age of 80, according to a press release from the American Film Institute.

Talking about her time working with Robert, the writer said: ‘I loved the work Robert Walker Jr. did.

‘And most important, the ending I had written was retained – with Charlie being taken away where he could do no harm, but where he would never be with anyone he could ever really touch.’
