‘Stand up and speak!’ Gary Neville demands action from Cristiano Ronaldo over Manchester United ‘crisis’

Gary Neville has urged Cristiano Ronaldo to ‘stand up and speak’ to resolve the crisis at Manchester United after the striker said he would clarify his future in an interview in a fortnight’s time.

The 37-year-old has been widely linked with an exit from Old Trafford after requesting to leave the club in July.

However, Ronaldo suggested many of the reports have been false in comments he made on his Instagram account on Tuesday night.

The striker says he’s kept a notebook of the ‘lies’ in the media and that he will reveal all in an interview ‘in a couple weeks’.

‘They know the truth when they interview in a couple weeks. The media is telling lies,’ said Ronaldo.

‘I have a notebook and in the last few months of the 100 news I made, only 5 were right. Imagine how it is. Stick with that tip.’

But Neville says that’s too late for a club that’s allowed the saga to overshadow their preparations for the season.

United have lost both of their opening Premier League matches and sit bottom of the league ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Old Trafford next Monday.

And Neville says it’s time for Ronaldo to take on a greater role of responsibility at the club by speaking out now.

‘Why does the greatest player of all time (in my opinion) have to wait two weeks to tell Manchester United fans the truth?’ tweeted Neville.

‘Stand up now and speak. The club is in crisis and it needs leaders to lead. He’s the only one who can grab this situation by the scruff of the neck!’.
