Stacey Dooley: The One Show stand-in host issues message to Alex Jones: ‘Mustn’t mess up’

The One Show’s stand-in host Stacey Dooley, 32, will be hosting the BBC evening programme alongside Matt Baker, 41, for the week, in Alex Jones’ absence.

Yesterday, after Matt introduced Stacey, she told viewers she was “excited” to be on the presenter’s sofa after previously being a guest on the show.

“We’re in for a good week here, we really are,” Matt added, before Stacey said she was thrilled to meet some of the guests.

“I’m normally on the other sofa,” she noted.

“Well, you had a great time doing that, so we thought we would invite you over here,” Matt replied.

“I’m holding the fort for you Alex,” Stacey said to the camera, before adding: “[I] mustn’t mess up.”

Alex is currently on maternity leave from the show after giving birth to her second son Kit with husband Charlie Thomson in May.

Stacey last appeared on the BBC show as a guest to discuss her time on Strictly Come Dancing and her BBC documentaries.

The documentary maker won Strictly Come Dancing with her now boyfriend Kevin Clifton, 36, in December.

Following their victory, Stacey’s ex-boyfriend Sam Tucknott, 31, claimed Stacey was in a relationship with Kevin.

Kevin and Stacey have remained tight-lipped about their relationship status up until recent weeks.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Stacey Dooley finally opened up about her “amazing” boyfriend Kevin Clifton.

During the chat, the BBC star revealed why the pair have chosen to keep their relationship private.

She said: “Kev and I have agreed not to go into too much detail about our private lives because you can’t really indulge that and then ask for privacy.

“That’s why we’ve turned down interviews that have offered us tens of thousands of pounds.”

She went on to say: “What I am happy to say is Kev’s amazing, I’m happy, life happens. I’ve got an amazing career and I’m very lucky.”

Last week, Kevin was left red-faced after he was quizzed about the pair’s relationship on This Morning.

Sitting alongside his sister Joanne Clifton, 35, the duo announced they are going on tour together next year.

But just before going off air, Ruth Langsford, 59, swiftly turned the conversation onto Stacey.

Kevin appeared taken aback after Ruth asked him how him and Stacey are.

He awkwardly replied saying the pair are “good”, before Joanne shut down any further chat.

He then added, laughing: “Straight in with the personal questions,” before Ruth wrapped up the interview.

The One show continues tonight at 7pm on BBC One.
