Spotted! This 'Masked Singer' is revealed, flies away from the competition

Spoiler alert! This story contains details from “The Masked Singer” Season 2, Episode 7, including the identity of the eliminated celebrity.

Wednesday’s “Masked Singer” added insult to injury (knowing a contestant had to be eliminated) with canine commentator Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, who served host Nick Cannon a dis right off the bat bone, crowning him “the biggest man in show business since Ryan Seacrest started saying ‘No’ to things.”

With a lineup of five veiled singers, the competition began with a performance from the Fox. In his preceding vignette, Fox mentioned his “30-year-career” and said he was “mostly known for being part of a pack of talented fellas, not my voice alone.” Clad in shiny gold pants, the contestant served a high-energy rendition of Bobby Brown’s “Every Little Step,” which left panelists Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Thicke impressed.

Citing “old school” dance moves and the selected tune, Thicke guessed Backstreet Boys member AJ McLean, while Scherzinger thought the man in costume could be Jamie Foxx. A boombox was revealed as a hint, of which the contestant shared, “As a young pup, this gift from my father helped me find my voice and a few others.”

Jeong expressed his belief that Fox could be Boyz II Men’s Shawn Stockman.

Ladybug landed next on the list of performers, after sharing her insecurities. “For years, I convinced myself that I just wasn’t good enough,” she said. “Whether in my career, in my relationships, or of course, in my family, I’ve let my insecurities get in my way, but becoming a ladybug has shown me, it’s really not that complicated.”

She chose to showcase her voice with 5 Seconds of Summer’s “Youngblood,” leaving Jeong and Thicke with suspicions that Lindsay Lohan was underneath the glittering costume. Scherzinger believed Ladybug to be Jamie Lynn Spears, while McCarthy believed it was Paris Jackson. As a hint, Ladybug was joined onstage by a golf cart bearing an “all access” sign. “In my youth, I wasn’t afraid to get a little mud on my tires,” she said.

Flower sprouted up next. She dropped hints as well, mentioning “dreamgirls” and proclaiming, when it comes to the competition, “I will survive.” She performed “Amazed” by Lonestar, which drew guesses of Björk (from Jeong) and Patti LaBelle (from Thicke).

Scherzinger praised the contender as “captivating” and told her, “We’re living for you.”

A deck of cards was brought to the stage as Flower’s clue. “It’s not about the hand you’re dealt, it’s about the way you play it, honey,” she said matter-of-factly.

‘Masked Singer’: Jenny McCarthy was ‘so close’ to correctly guessing Eagle

Prior to Tree belting out Meghan Trainor’s “No Excuses,” the mystery singer tread on a blank Playbill and said her costume made her feel “beamed up into another dimension.” A reference to “strangers with candy,” a series starring Amy Sedaris had Scherzinger thinking of the funny lady, while McCarthy had Molly Shannon and Cheri Oteri on the brain. Jeong felt Lauren Graham could be a possibility. A bowl of soup, referenced as a clue, left Thicke thinking Rachael Ray could be under the costume.

Rottweiler rounded out the handful of contestants that showcased their vocal skills Wednesday, moving Scherzinger with his version of “Castle on the Hill” by Ed Sheeran.

“He has the best voice,” she remarked.

Once again, a reference to North Carolina seemed to be a clue. The dog was also shown sniffing around a crime scene prior to crooning. Jeong guessed Gavin DeGraw was behind the performance. The singer lent his voice to the theme song for “One Tree Hill,” which takes place in North Carolina. Scherzinger “Glee”-fully guessed Darren Criss, while an artful drawing of Triumph lead McCarthy to believe the ab-ilicious pup might be James Franco.

At the end of the episode, it was revealed Ladybug would be flying away from the sing-off. The panelists stuck with their suspicions expressed earlier in the show, but were blown away when the contestant was unmasked as Kelly Osbourne.

“Never, never would’ve thought Osbourne,” said Thicke.

“We’ve been played,” assessed Jeong, while Cannon was rendered “speechless.”

Osbourne went through the whole competition speaking with a Southern accent to throw off the judges. She said, “I heard the first word come out of my mouth and I was like, ‘They’re gonna know that it’s me.’ And then this accent just came out and I had to do it the whole time. And every single time, inside this mask I’ve been dying laughing.”

Robin Thicke (jokingly) guessed this ‘Masked Singer’ star right!
