Splyce Co-Founder Departs OverActive Media

Splyce Co-Founder Marty “Lazerchicken” Strenczewilk announced on Twitter that he would be stepping away from esports, “…to refocus and see what projects are out there to tackle, both in gaming & outside of it.”

Strenczewilk’s Splyce brand and its staff were acquired by OverActive Media (OAM) in November of 2018 to manage OAM’s two flagship teams that played in the Overwatch League (Toronto Defiant) and Call of Duty League (Toronto Ultra), respectively. Strenczewilk took the title senior vice president of team operations.

However, during the time Strenczewilk was with OAM, Splyce’s League of Legends European Championship (LEC) squad was rebranded to MAD Lions and most of the original staff were brought over to OAM from Splyce were let go.

Before its merger with OAM, Splyce was one of the first organizations to implement an esports news site that reported on results, events, and more. Additionally, the organization created a TV Guide-like schedule with all of the events that were to take place.

In terms of what Strenczewilk will do next, he tweeted, “Feel free to send along things you know of if you think it would be an interesting fit and/or share that I’m available and looking.”
