Spielberg film in Glasgow – Hollywood director Sam Mendes first star spotted at Govan Graving Docks


Scenes for Steven Spielberg’s latest film are being filmed in Glasgow today.

Govan’s historical graving docks are being used as a backdrop in the movie which is set during the First World War.

The film, named 1917, is a collaboration between Spielberg and Sam Mendes, who is writing and directing the project.

Mendes is the first big name to be spotted on set today.

He is known for his work on the James Bond films Skyfall and Spectre.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Bodyguard star Richard Madden are also starring in the flick, and it is hoped they will make an appearance on set today.

Colin Firth is also set to star in the movie.

The film crew set up base yesterday near the SEC and will reportedly be filming until Friday.

As a result, Clydebrae Street and Stag Street have been closed to pedestrians and drivers.

An actor could be seen dressed in an Army uniform dating from the First World War, while a blue screen was erected.

A pump house has been converted and lorries queued alongside the docks while crew members constructed the set.
