Spider-Man Director Addresses Sinister 6, Gwen Stacy & Other Big Rumors

Director Jon Watts is here to clear the air regarding some rumors about Spider-Man: Far from Home. We should note up top that those who consider knowing a few things that won’t be in the movie as spoilers should probably turn away now. For those who don’t, Watts had definitively stated a few things that didn’t make the cut in the upcoming sequel, even if the rumor mill had us thinking they were possibilities.

First off, we’ve heard several rumors regarding the possible formation, or at least lead up to the formation of the Sinister Six. The evil super group is something fans have wanted to see for a long time, but they’re going to have to wait just a little longer. During a recent interview, Jon Watts revealed they weren’t even discussed for this movie. Here’s what John Watts had to say about it.

“We never talked about that for this film. It’s just a question of what is the best idea for the story we are telling. Hopefully, the best idea always wins but what’s exciting about working with Marvel is that you feel like every idea is always on the table.”

We may well see the Sinister Six at some point down the line, it’s just that Spider-Man: Far From Home wasn’t the right fit. Moving on, there was a rumor, that dates way back to an alleged leaked audition tape from December 2017, that Gwen Stacy was going to be introduced. That’s not going to happen either and, furthermore, Jon Watts says he has “no idea” what that tape was. But he didn’t have anything else to say on the matter.

Last, but not least, we’ve heard a little buzz here and there that Captain Britain, a Marvel hero who has yet to make his way to the big screen, was possibly going to appear, in some way, in Tom Holland’s latest solo outing. On this one, Jon Watts admits they discussed it as a possibility, but couldn’t come up with a way to get the character in there that felt natural.

“We talked about ways…if we could have come up with a clever way of incorporating Captain Britain, I think we would have. There was never really anything that stood out that didn’t seem like a shoehorned in reference.”

What we will see in the movie is Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio. This is another character people have been calling for and we’re finally getting to see him, with an A-list actor under the fishbowl helmet no less. So far, critics have been very kind to Spider-Man: Far From Home, which hits theaters next week on July 2. All of that buzz is going to lead to a big debut at the box office and bright future for Peter Parker in the MCU. Perhaps one that includes some, or all, of these characters that didn’t make the cut this time around. This news comes to us via ComicBookMovie.com. Jao Picart at Artist Station did the Kiernan Shipka as Gwen Stacy art.
