FORMER Spice Girl Melanie Chisholm tells today how a “scuffle” with Victoria Beckham sparked her battle with depression and eating disorders.
Sporty Spice, as Mel C was known, said managers threatened to kick her out of the band months before they shot to stardom when she told Posh Spice to “f*** off” in a boozy off-stage row at the Brits in 1996.
She tells Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs: “I think that is where the start of some of my problems came.
“I had to be very, very strict with myself.
“I couldn’t allow myself to relax because if I did I might mess it all up.”
Mel, 46, said she started starving herself but went from anorexia to binge-eating.
She said of her depression diagnosis: “I went from being anorexic to having a binge eating disorder.
“That’s when I went to my GP and I was diagnosed with depression. It was such a weight lifted off my shoulders.
“It was such a relief because I thought, ‘Oh my God, there’s a name for it and I can be helped’.’’
