Spice Girl Mel B breaks silence over blindness horror and fears it would cancel tour

Spice Girl Mel B has revealed her horror at going blind days before the band’s first gig in Dublin.

Scary Spice described experiencing a panic-stricken meltdown after being rushed to the Moorfields Eye Hospital in London last week.

The 43-year-old, who is already blind in her left eye following botched laser surgery, lost the vision in her right eye last Friday.

Medics allegedly told the singer her sight loss may have been caused by the stress of rehearsals for the Spice Girls’ sell-out reunion tour and advised her to rest.

Speaking to The Sun , Mel said: “I was thinking, ‘Oh my god, I’m going to go blind. What about the tour? What the hell am I going to do?’ I was having a meltdown.”

The mum-of-three went on to describe how her right eye went blurry on the morning of May 17 as she made her way to rehearsals in Bedfordshire.

She went on: “Then pretty quickly it got worse and worse and then suddenly I just completely lost vision in that eye and my left also started to get blurry.

“I went into a complete panic because I thought I was going to go blind.”

The singer arrived at the eye hospital wearing an eye patch, with witnesses claiming she was “in a really bad way, screaming” as she clutched her assistant’s hand.

The star was diagnosed with severe iritis in her right eye, as well as inflammation in her left.

She was transferred 35 miles away to the Luton and Dunstable Hospital for a check up with a specialist who confirmed the cause of her sight problems as stress.

She claims that after being prescribed eye drops and tablets, she returned to rehearsals almost immediately.

However, the singer claims that her sight issues returned hours later when she was on stage for a run-through of Spice Girls’ hit Mama.

Mel said she was forced to run off stage causing “total panic”, and had tears pouring down her face.

Her sight returned to normal around 15 minutes later.

Mel B has spent the last five weeks in lengthy rehearsals alongside fellow band members Geri Horner, Mel C and Emma Bunton.

The singer has also been going through a strenuous divorce from her husband of ten years, Stephen Belafonte.
