Spain revealed as number one country in the world Britons MOST want to move to

Spain is greatly beloved by Britons heading off on holidays to the Mediterranean country. It offers delectable cuisine, a rich and fascinating history and stunning beaches. And it turns out some Britons like it so much they’d be keen to emigrate to Spain. In fact, it has been revealed Spain is the popular spot to move to of all.

A survey has shown that 13 per cent of Britons would choose Spain over any other country to move to.

The research follows news that Spain holidays are still the number one break of choice for thousands of Britons.

Analysis of the International Passenger Survey (IPS) air travel figures showed nearly over 6,736 visitors flew to Spain in 1994 – roughly 5,000 more than any other country.

In 2018, over 13,615 British tourists headed to Spanish destinations – roughly 11,000 more than any other country.

The second most popular country Britons would like to move to is much further afield, however.

New Zealand came in second place – a country which was recently named the second most peaceful country on earth.

Australia twinned with New Zealand in the survey, with both being voted for by 12 per cent of Britons.

Other popular moves on the wish list compiled by AnyVan.com included USA (10 per cent), Canada (nine per cent), Italy (seven per cent) and France (six per cent).

Angus Elphinstone, CEO of AnyVan, said: “It’s nearly a national sport in the UK to dream about moving.

“From flicking through property prices and listings on Rightmove to sitting down to watch one of the vast number of primetime TV shows offering advice to those looking to change homes for a place in the sun.

“Our research highlighted where people dream to move to, but there were still 16 per cent of residents who didn’t want to move anywhere.

“With such a vast number of different landscapes, coastal views and green spaces, it’s easy to see why so many are living their dream in the UK and don’t feel they need to move elsewhere.”

Dubai proved hugely popular with younger people too. Four per cent of under 34s dream of a move to the Middle East, the survey showed.

The USA came in top place with 16 per cent listing this as their favourite, followed by Australia and then Spain.

Britons flying to Spain with Ryanair need to be careful when it comes to their hand luggage under new rules.

The airline is clamping down on passengers bringing duty-free alcohol into the cabin and it is banned in hand luggage from Glasgow Prestwick and Manchester airports to Ibiza, Alicante, Barcelona, Malaga, Palma and Tenerife South.

Luggage will be tagged at the airport gate and put in the hold for free if passengers have priority boarding or if they have a small item of carry on baggage.

If the alcohol is brought through in just a plastic – and therefore not suitable for going into the hold – passengers will have to leave their booze behind.

Ryanair staff will be searching cabin bags and boarding gates will be monitored to make sure the rule is not flouted.
