Sorry folks, Mark Hamill won’t be reprising his iconic role for Star Wars anytime soon

Mark Hamill has ruled out the idea of returning to the Star Wars franchise for any spin-offs and we’re pretty heartbroken.

The veteran actor says he ‘couldn’t imagine’ reprising his iconic role as Luke Skywalker, who – spoiler alert – died at the end of The Last Jedi.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Mark explained: ‘I had a beginning, middle, and end. Those films gave me far more than I ever expected when we started out so it’s never even occurred to me.

‘My farewell was in Episode IX and it was bittersweet. I love all those people and I certainly have affection for George [Lucas] and the character he created.

‘I’m full of gratitude for what it has given me and my career but I don’t want to be greedy.’

He continued: ‘There are still so many more stories to tell and so many great actors to tell them, they don’t need me.’

We’ll just have to constantly re-watch the movies (Picture: Lucasfilm/Fox/Kobal/REX)

But we need you, Mark.

Despite his death, his character returned as a Force spirit in The Rise of Skywalker and as a ghost in the film’s epilogue scene.

Time to re-watch every film and tear up at the fact we won’t see him as Luke anymore.

He might not be returning, but the star really appreciates spin-off show The Mandalorian so we have that going for us, we guess.

‘I think they have a wonderful advantage in that it’s economical storytelling,’ Mark said on the Disney Plus show.

‘They don’t have the burden of delivering a gigantic special effects extravaganza like the films had to do.

‘It sort of gets back to the basics of George envisioning it as a western in space. It has that tone of a Sergio Leone Western.’
