Sophie Turner: Game of Thrones' Sansa Stark addresses Kit Harington's higher salary

Sophie Turner, 23, has aired her views on the difference in pay between herself and fellow Game of Thrones actor Kit Harington, 32. Sophie and her Game Of Thrones cast mates have now finished filming season eight of the popular HBO drama, which is set to conclude next month. The final season of the show is reportedly its most highly budgeted yet, with each individual episode costing the network at least $15 million, according to Variety. Kit is said to earn $710,000 per week in his role as Jon Snow, while Sophie allegedly receives $210,000 each week.

The British actress, who plays Sansa Stark on the show, openly discussed the issue in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK.

When quizzed about gender equality in the business, Sophie revealed: “Kit got more money than me, but he had a bigger storyline.”

The star went on to explain that her co-star’s workload was much more strenuous in comparison to hers in the final season, which was justly reflected in his wages.

She added: “And for the last series, he had something crazy like 70 night shoots and I didn’t have that many.

“I was like, ‘You know what… you keep that money.’”

Elsewhere, Sophie also shared that she was initially “jealous” of Maisie Williams, 21, who plays Arya Stark as a result of her character taking centre stage in most of the action scenes.

She told Rolling Stones:  “In the beginning, I was jealous of Maisie because she got to do all of these sword fights and be the badass.”

However, she soon realised the importance of Sansa and Arya’s different outlooks and personalities for the storyline.

Sophie added: “Sansa adapts better than Arya. If Arya was in Sansa’s situation at the beginning, she would have had her head cut off.

“And if Sansa had been in Arya’s position, Sansa would have been bullied to death…”

In terms of life after the show, Sophie is currently in the midst of planning her wedding to The Jonas Brothers singer Joe Jonas, 29.

The couple have been dating since 2016, with the actress confirming their engagement news the following year in an Instagram post featuring the simple caption: “I said yes.”

Although the two are both superstars in their own right, they have vowed to keep their celebrations small and understated.

Sophie told Harpers Bazaar: “We’re trying to keep it as low-key as possible so it’s more of an intimate thing.”

Speaking about how they met, she explained: “We had a lot of mutual friends and they’d been trying to introduce us for a long time.

“We were following each other on Instagram and he direct-messaged me one fine day, out of the blue.”

Game of Thrones season 8 returns April 14 on HBO in the US, and the next day on Sky Atlantic in the UK.

The May issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK is on sale from Thursday.
