Sophie Ellis-Bextor thanks hospital staff for ‘gluing her back together’ after bike accident

Sophie Ellis-Bextor has shared a photo of herself in hospital following a cycling accident.

The 41-year-old looked battered and bruised as she posted a snap of herself in A&E following the incident.

However, the Murder on the Dancefloor singer has reassured fans that she is ‘okay’, and thanked everyone that helped looked after her after the crash.

“I ended up in A&E last night after I took a tumble from the tow path down to the side of the Thames on my bike during an evening cycle,” Ellis-Bextor wrote on Instagram.

“I’ve put the photo in black and white so it’s not too gory. I am okay, just a bit bruised and sore.”

“I want to thank the ambulance crew and the staff at West Midlands Hospital (where I was born, as it happens) for gluing me back together.”

Ellis-Bextor also went on the thank the four runners who stopped and helped her after she was injured.

“You were so calm, thoughtful and reassuring. Thank you very much,” she wrote. “I hope you see this message as I didn’t get your details. You’re all lovely people.”

Ellis-Bextor, who has previously been fiercely private about her family life, has been keeping spirits high during lockdown with her weekly Friday night discos – with her five children often making an appearance.

Some highlights from the weekly parties, which have since ended as lockdown has started to ease across the country, included the singer dressing up in sequins and glitter to sing her hit Take Me Home, with the lyrics changed to the more fitting Stay at Home.

“I suppose, over the years, I’ve always been quite a private person,” she told The Guardian.

“I don’t normally show the inside of my house. I definitely never show my kids anywhere. But suddenly, I think with everything we’ve all been going through collectively, it just felt like that was totally irrelevant.

“Like, who cares? No one’s interested in prying; we just want to feel a connection. We just want something silly.”
