Sonic Frontiers November release date and DLC leaked by merchandise promo

The new Gamescom trailer is expected to formally announce a release date (pic: Sega)

Promotional material may have given away Sonic Frontiers’ release date, with the new Netflix series expected to arrive the following month.

Although Sega shared new details and gameplay footage for Sonic Frontiers throughout June, there’s still a lot about the game that’s being kept under wraps, including when it’s out.

Sega insists that the game is on track for a winter release this year, despite calls from some fans for it to be delayed. An exact date is likely being saved for when a new trailer is shown at Gamescom next week, but it looks like it may have leaked already.

A Taiwanese retailer recently posted promotional material for the game and some related merchandise, with the game’s release date listed as November 15.

The material also makes mention of DLC, although there’s nothing to suggest whether this will include new levels, playable characters, or just simple cosmetics.

Among the merchandise is what looks like a poster depicting original artwork for the game, with Sonic and some of his friends standing alongside small, grey creatures.

What role they could have in the game isn’t clear yet, but it looks like they’ll be allies or perhaps need to be rescued, much like how Sonic would save small animals in previous games.

Fans on Twitter have managed to enlarge the image to see what else it contains. Aside from re-confirming that Tails, Knuckles, and Amy will appear, there’s a notable black blob that is no doubt hiding more characters that haven’t been announced for the game yet.

The website was first spotted by Reddit user FahdaadTD, and you can visit it yourself here.

A new trailer for the game has been found in Japan as well and has since made its way online. It’s only 30 seconds long and doesn’t reveal any new details, aside from a short snippet of what sounds like the game’s vocal theme.

It looks like the last months of 2022 are going to be big for Sonic fans, as the Netflix series, Sonic Prime, is apparently releasing in December, just a month after Sonic Frontiers.

This is according to an interview with Toru Nakahara, a producer on both the live action Sonic movies.

The show will be a multiverse story of some kind, with Sonic once again needing to save his friends and foil whatever Dr Eggman’s newest scheme is.

Netflix and Sega have only shared a few short clips so far, all of which are set in Green Hill Zone, with the only other characters besides Sonic so far being Shadow (who’ll also show up in the next movie) and, bizarrely, Big the Cat.

Sonic Frontiers releases later this year for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
