Red Devils boss Solskjaer said: “Everyone at the club is disgusted with what happened.

“Our fans are passionate but opinions can be voiced in different ways. I’ve said it before, we have to stick together.”

Woodward was in the crowd as United crashed out of the Carabao Cup to neighbours City 3-2 on aggregate last night despite winning the semi-final second leg 1-0 at the Etihad.

United legend Gary Neville was just as scathing of fans.

The ex-England defender told Sky Sports: “It can’t be condoned. There is no excuse and it is wrong. Ed Woodward doesn’t deserve that, neither do his family.

“But the fans are disgusted with how the football side of the club has been run over the last three years.

“Essentially, the club has been mismanaged and the fans are not daft.

“The fans’ heads have gone, not just on social media but now it’s in the stadium as well and will continue until something is changed.

“It’s simmering and it will boil soon. The reality of it is the first issue is something that can’t be condoned but the second issue is something that’s going to get worse.

“It’s a fine line between passion and frustration, they feel as if their voices aren’t being heard and that’s why they’ve done something as extraordinary as that.”

Cheshire Police confirmed they are hunting those involved.

Paul Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola also condemned the “morons” who attacked Woodward’s home.

Raiola has clashed with Woodward over Pogba’s future and transfer dealings.

But he said: “If anyone has used me as a reason to create any anger towards Ed, they are totally wrong.

“I condemn any type of violence. These guys are morons and this is criminal behaviour.”
